Marriages

Marriages are regulated by the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth) which is a Commonwealth law. It sets out who may marry, who may perform marriage services and how services may be conducted.

De facto relationships

De facto relationships are partnerships between two persons which are not formalised under a law. In Western Australia they are governed by the laws of the State of Western Australia. In other States and the Territories they are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth.
